BIOGRAPHY
Richard Gallo is the Irma Gigli Distinguished Professor and founding chair of the Department of Dermatology at UC San Diego, as well as President of the Society for Investigative Dermatology. His research on antimicrobial peptides and the microbiome has improved understanding and treatment of atopic dermatitis, acne, psoriasis, and rosacea. He has published over 450 papers, with more than 93,000 citations and an h-index of 154, and has been featured in major news outlets such as The New York Times, NBC, BBC, and Der Spiegel. He has received numerous awards for his work and is a Fellow of the National Academy of Medicine, AAAS, the Royal College of Physicians and other national and international honorary societies. A dedicated mentor, he has helped launch many careers worldwide.
