Suzanne Linsmeier Kilmer, M.D. Founding Director, Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Northern California Clinical Professor, University of California, Davis Internationally recognized for her pioneering work in dermatology and laser medicine, Suzanne Linsmeier Kilmer, M.D., is the Founding Director of the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of Northern California and serves as a Clinical Professor at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Kilmer has played pivotal roles in advancing the field, including serving as the past president of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS). Dr. Kilmer began her journey at U.C. Davis Medical Center, where she earned her medical degree and completed her dermatology residency. To deepen her expertise, she pursued a prestigious laser surgery fellowship at Harvard Medical School’s Wellman Laboratories of Photomedicine under Dr. Rox Anderson. Her time at Harvard extended into faculty research, where she contributed groundbreaking work on Q-switched lasers for treating tattoos and pigmented lesions, as well as rapidly pulsed CO2 lasers for skin resurfacing. Upon returning to Sacramento, Dr. Kilmer’s focus shifted to clinical trials and innovation. She became a principal investigator in over 300 studies, exploring cutting-edge treatments for skin resurfacing, laser hair removal, cosmetic injectables, body shaping, muscle stimulation devices, and more. Her research has also spotlighted novel technologies like microwave treatment for hyperhidrosis and picosecond lasers for diverse applications ranging from acne scars to tattoo removal. Beyond her clinical and research accomplishments, Dr. Kilmer is an influential voice in the medical community. She lectures at national and international dermatology conferences, sharing her insights through laser courses and published works. Her dedication to advancing dermatology and laser medicine has earned her leadership roles on the boards of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) and ASLMS, as well as several Presidential Citations for her contributions. Dr. Kilmer’s accolades include the 2008 Sturge-Weber Foundation Roastee, the 2009 ASLMS Ellet Drake Lectureship Award, and recognition as the ASDS Iron Surgeon in 2014. In 2020, she was honored with three awards: the Vic Narurkar MD Innovations in Aesthetic Dermatology Lectureship, the Leon Goldman Award, and the Caroline & William Mark Memorial Award for career-long excellence. In 2021, ASLMS celebrated her leadership and advocacy with the Melanie C. Grossman, MD Award and Dr. Thomas E. Rohrer’s Presidential Citation. When not playing in the electromagnetic spectrum, Dr. Kilmer enjoys skiing, pickleball, puzzles, beach walks, and playing games with her family.
