BIOGRAPHY
Prof. Dr. med. Dr. med. habil. Rolf‑Markus Szeimies (M.D., Ph.D.) is Head of the Department of Dermatology and Allergology at Knappschaft Kliniken Recklinghausen, an Academic Teaching Hospital of Ruhr‑University Bochum. He studied medicine at Ludwig‑Maximilians‑University, earning his doctorate magna cum laude and subsequently completing his habilitation on topical photodynamic therapy at the University of Regensburg. An internationally recognized expert in dermatooncology, photodynamic therapy (PDT), laser medicine, photobiology, and chronic inflammatory skin diseases, Prof. Szeimies has published over 280 peer‑reviewed articles and more than 40 book chapters. He has held leading academic and clinical positions for nearly three decades, including directorship of specialized units in photodermatology and allergology. Prof. Szeimies serves as Editor of Die Dermatologie (formerly Hautarzt) and is Vice‑President of the European Society for Photodynamic Therapy in Dermatology (EURO‑PDT). He is an active member of numerous national and international dermatology societies and guideline committees for non‑melanoma skin cancer and PDT.
